Are you a full-time travel writer?
Nope. I am also a freelance writer and publicist.
How are you able to travel so frequently?
I prioritize travel.
I once owned a pair of Christian Louboutins (the most uncomfortable pair of shoes in the world. It’s time to stop pretending ladies). Then one day, I sold them and used that money to buy some Dr. Scholl’s and a foot massage a plane ticket to Maui, Hawaii. Over time, I started placing a higher value on experiences instead of expensive things. I realized I’d rather actually visit Paris instead of just owning a pair of shoes that are made there. I eventually stopped wanting to be defined by the things I owned. Today, I’d spend my last dollar to explore the world, experience different cultures and meet people from all walks of life.
I am also blessed to get invited on occasional fully sponsored trips (and I’ll always disclose that information when I share the experience on the blog).
Lastly, being a location independent freelancer allows me to get up and go when I choose. Talk about icing on a cake.
How can I make extra money so that I can travel more?
Say “no” to excess spending and stick to it.
Say no to frequent happy hours. Once or twice a month is okay. For the other two Fridays, go be happy at home with a seven-dollar bottle of moscato from Kroger and invite some friends over. Say “no” to all of the other things you may think you can’t live without. I promise there’s oxygen floating around in that empty shopping cart. 🙂
If you have a side hobby or special skills, turn it into a money-maker. I have used my experience in writing, PR and social media as an opportunity to land freelance gigs and earn some additional income to fund my travels.
I want to be a digital nomad too. How can I find remote work?
The internet is your best friend. I recommend researching companies and job opportunities in your field that let you work remotely. If you’ve got marketing and social media chops, check out Cloud Peeps. You can also learn about other remote companies at Remote.co.
Can you recommend some resources you use when planning affordable travel?
Sure can. Check out reasons why you don’t need a lot of money to travel. I’ve also listed the following resources to assist in booking accommodations and airfare:
How was your first solo trip?
In one word, AMAZING.
Do you prefer solo or group travel?
I’m all about balance.

While I love experiencing new things with friends and family, the ability to get up and go at my own pace and spend quality time with myself is priceless.
I’m nervous about traveling alone. Any advice?
#1. Don’t be nervous. #2 Read my ebook on how to let go of fear and love solo travel.
What countries have you visited so far?
What’s your favorite place?
I get asked this question a lot and although I don’t feel ready to answer it (yet), I still felt it was necessary to include it. I love certain characteristics about certain places (from Bali’s yoga culture to Amsterdam’s bike culture), which makes it tough for me to have a “favorite”. So I’ll just leave it at that for now.
Where are you headed next?
You’ll have to check back on the blog for that one.
How did you get started with writing?
Because I’m so serious about saying no to drugs, I won the D.A.R.E. essay competition in the 4th grade and the rest was history.
I’ve always loved writing and self-expression. Plus, putting ink (and thoughts) to paper (or on a blog) makes everything a bit more intentional and realistic.
I like your pictures on Instagram. What kind of camera do you use?
Thank you! I’m high-key obsessed with the gram. I use a combination of my iPhone 6 and my Sony a5000.
What is your ultimate goal in life?
Way to pressure a girl with this one.
I like exploring the world and inspiring others to follow their dreams. I love when I can combine the two. Whether it’s traveling and speaking at large conferences or in a small intimate group setting about travel and living a life you love, I am passionate about inspiring other women. That said, I eventually want to lead women’s empowerment retreats all around the globe.
